The 704 is super popular with the CNC conversion crowd so there's a lot more support and info out there if that's a direction you're interested in going in. Personally I would step up to the PM727V or PM30V if you have the funds/ space, they both look a lot more versatile while not occupying much more space.
Grizzly is an importer and as far as I know, they import from China, IMHO, Grizzly is one of the better importers. They buy enough machines to have a larger degree of control than many of the smaller, internet importers. So they often have a better imported machine even when the other brands look like the exact, same thing or at least very similar.

It is more the technique than the mill: cutter speed, feed rate, depth of cut, coolant used, etc. I would want to feel real comfortable before risking an expensive part. The size of the mill you are looking at is a concern, mostly due to it's rigidity or lack thereof. Any move upward in size and weight would probably help there.

It's a decent mill for the price, but with the induction motor, it's for LIGHT duty only! Anything larger they about a 1/4" end mill, or a 1" face mill is over taxing the machine. I use mine primarily for folder work, and/or guard slotting. Personally, I have two mills, the G0704, and a large floor model Grizzly.

I have had a G0704 for several years. It is a good machine but has the problem of a plastic gear. I have destroyed the gear twice, now, while doing flycutting; even when making very light cuts. The machine (Grizzly G0704 Drill Mill with Stand) looks fine. and is reasonably accurate when it works. Eventually the motor will stop rotating. After checking all the basic possibilities I.E. fuses, connections, speed control potentometer I replaced the motor. This did not fix the problem. I called Grizzly service and they were no help.
