Just run your pug mill frequently. Several times a week at least. Even if it is perfect clay, just run it through the barrel and back into the bucket. If you are willing to do this there is little need for a stainless steel barrel. I have a used Venco with a pitted aluminum barrel. I have not had any issues but only have had it 6 months.
