In all he had a rebuilt 3gm30f with it's associated parts, ie; fuel tank, wiring etc., a new transmission, driveshaft and stuffing box all replaced. Total cost was $12,000.
Check via the cover plate on the side of the front cover in other words remove that plate. There is a slot in the front cover casting and the rack stub needs to pass through that slot. Pump comes straight up. Keep track of the shims - located between the pump body and the front cover.

The previous and original owner of my C&C 32 removed the old Atomic bomb that the boat came with and replaced it with a brand new 3GM30F with a new 2.21/1 gearbox, shaft, and o-ringed stuffing box, cost $12,000. It has 500 hours on it and I still concider it not completely broken in.

Get a voltmeter with a max/min function. put it on the battery, crank the motor. If the battery stays up at 11V or more, there is probably a problem with the wiring. The motor is not drawing the current it should. If the volts are dragged down to say 8 V, then I'd guess the engine is stiff to turn, or the starter is shot.
Does anyone have any experience hand cranking a Yanmar 3GM30F? I could weld up a crank from an old socket. Start it by opening the decompression levers for all 3 cylinders, use the crank to get it turning as fast as possible, pull the crank clear of the engine, then close one (or perhaps two) decompression levers to get it going.
